Tactful Ways to Disagree

Give a sincere compliment. Find something you admire about others’ positions or opinions. Then mention how “there’s another issue to consider” or “other variables need sorting out.” Example: “Your proposal makes sense, and under most circumstances it would work great. In this case, though…”

Report what’s worked in the past. Discuss your experience taking different approaches – and the results. Example: “From my experience, I’ve found that we can make some more progress by…”
